Rounds 4 and 5

It's been almost three weeks since I've written, you should take this as a good sign! We've been busy in the best way possible. On Tuesday April 26 Travis had his 4th round of chemo while the snow fell for the most part of the day. For me, the highlight of the visit was when Trav's doctor asked him if he had amnesia for the past two months (aside from the side effects of chemo) if he was asked how he was feeling, what would he say? Without hesitation Travis's response was, "I would say I felt healthy and normal." This speaks volumes to how far Travis has progressed over the past two months. He most definitely is a different person, and I can't tell you what a relief it is to have Travis feeling better and acting more like himself. Don't get me wrong, he still has days where he doesn't feel so great and he gets fatigued very easily but he is more himself these days.

After Travis had his pump taken off two days later, he was even up for going to his father's house for a birthday celebration for his dad! It was nice to be able to spend time with his family and Travis was able to stay a little bit longer than he did on Easter! A few days later Ben came to stay with us and Travis was able to take him to the movies and spend plenty of time with him.

The following week was fairly quiet, we spent a lot of time at home during the week. As the school year is winding down for me, my days are very long, and I've been running around like crazy trying to get things done. Travis has been a trooper putting up with my stress level being a little bit higher than normal and being patient with my busy schedule!

On Saturday May 7th, we were able to travel down to Ludlow, VT to go to his family's camp on Lake Rescue. We had a nice drive down and helped clean up and open the camp. Travis even had the chance to do a little fishing while we were there. We are looking forward to spending more time there this summer. Travis spent a lot of time with his grandmother at the camp growing up and it will be nice to bring Ben and Jack there to get away! Sunday was Mother's Day and we went out to lunch with Deb (Travis's mother), Betsey (Travis's Sister), her family, Kate (Travis's other sister) and her son. We had lunch at Koto Steak House (Travis and I had never been) and visited with Travis's Grandmother after. It was another great opportunity for us to spend time with Trav's family and made it feel like things were a little bit more "normal".

This past week Travis had his 5th round of chemo on Tuesday May 10th. The day was a far cry from two weeks before, the sun was out and it was gorgeous. Things went smoothly with Travis's labs and the results were "rock solid" according to his doctor. The plan is for Travis to have one more round of chemo and then to have a scan to see how things have progressed. The big question at hand was, what will happen if the scan comes back positive and things are improving from the chemo? The doctor told us that if things look good the next step is for Travis not to have chemo as often and not to be as "tethered" to the clinic. He would most likely go on medication instead of chemo and they will see how things go. This is great news as summer is approaching and Travis would love to take some trips and spend some time away from home. In particular we are hoping to spend some time down in Rhode Island at the beach, camp in Ludlow, and hopefully a Red Sox game in Boston!

Overall, things are looking up for Travis! We remain hopeful that things will continue to improve with treatment. We continue to receive a huge amount of support from friends, family and acquaintances which has provided a huge amount of comfort. Both Travis and I could not have gotten by with all of it and we could never say thank you enough! Travis's next round of chemo will be on Tuesday May 24th, we will keep you all updated!
